Great Names for Dogs and Puppies from Foods
Some of the best dog names come from foods of all kinds, including meats, cheeses, and sweets. These are even better as a dogs name if the dog either especially enjoys the food or is the color of the food.
Dogs love meat, and there are number of meat inspired names for dogs. Tbone and Ribeye are both cuts of beef, and Porkchop is a cut of pork. Meatball and burger are foods normally made with beef. Different Sausages including Hotdog, Schnitzel, and Wiener are great names.

With companies around the world looking for ways to increase their profits, you have to question if they are going to justify the expense of high quality ingredients. Recently there was a case of melamine being found in milk powder that had been produced under the much stricter human food production standards. This leads me to think that it’s only a matter of time before there’s another contaminated batch of dog food released, and I certainly don’t want to have my puppy suffer as a result of not taking action. We now need to be aware of how safe the food we are feeding to our dog is, not just if it has the right nutrition in it.
Now we have to have a look at the actual nutritional value of your dog food. More and more it’s becoming accepted practice to bulk out dog food with rice and corn proteins. These proteins are an unusable by product of the human food industry, until someone realised that they would fall under the definition of protein and could therefore be added to dog food. Now while there is nothing wrong with plant proteins, they simply give very little nutritional content for a dog. Even if they were whole proteins rather than the highly processed ones that are added, a very small amount would be sufficient for a dogs diet. Instead, often there is more plant protein than animal. This isn’t going to help your Dachshund stay healthy and free of disease.
These days fish protein is being hailed as a great source of nutrients, which may be true. But, along with that protein comes a carcinogenic preservative which has also been linked to severe allergies. So be wary of fish meal in your dog food

Fascinating Facts – Where Do Dogs Come From?
It seems most likely that our domestic dog is evolved from the wolf and that the process started around 14,000 years ago. Why? We can only guess. Maybe the wolf decided that it was in his best interests to come closer to human encampments, where he would have access to leftovers and remains.
Maybe man decided that it was good to have the wolves around, as security from other predators. Wolves could run faster than man, so teamwork between dog and man meant increased efficiency in hunting. Both benefited from this alliance, and early man developed his own breeding programme. Nervous, aggressive or independent wolves would not be selected as breeding stock. The friendliest puppies were chosen and protected, and man’s association with the dog began.
Through recent studies with foxes, it has been found that breeding for behavioural traits also affects physical characteristics. After a few generations of selective breeding, the foxes were retaining their juvenile characteristics, such as a domed head and big eyes. As we have strongly influenced the breeding of dogs through many generations, we have made substantial alterations from the basic model of the wolf, It is these changes that have enabled the dog to become the successful pet that he is today.
Physically, we have changed the wolf to suit our purposes. When looking at a German Shepherd Dog or Siberian Husky we can see some similarities, but compare the Dachshund, the Old English Sheepdog or the Great Dane and it is hard to find many resemblances. Some of the changes include:
Eye colour: many wolves have striking light-coloured eyes. ‘When a wolf looks at you, you know about it. Most dogs have brown eyes.
Noise: wolves rarely bark hut barking is one of the features that humans have selected to communicate with each other. Domestic dogs tend to howl less, but they have a whole range of other vocalizations, including barking and whining.
Contrary to popular opinion, wolves are not highly aggressive towards each other. A stable pack exists around a well defined hierarchy which allows the wolves to cooperate with each other. It would not be in the best interests of the pack for members to harm, each other.

The breed of Miniature Pinschers was first developed in Germany in the 1830s. They were bred with German Pinschers, Manchesters, and Dachshunds in order to give them specific characteristics as a working dog as well as companion. They became so popular so quickly, that they were soon known as the king of toy breeds, a name they still carry today.
The idea behind Min Pins was to create a smaller breed of dog, mostly to be used on ships to catch vermin. As most would think, it would be better to use cats for this purpose. However, the cats that were used were not able to go onto the ships because of the way the wood from the decks affected them. The best solution was to breed a smaller dog that could take the place of the cats. When the changes in the dogs began to be made the breeders went after two things: a smaller size and a high amount of energy to help out on the boats.
The Miniature Pinschers quickly grew into a companion dog as well as a hunter of vermin. The size of the Min Pins became attractive to the women in Germany, as most saw them as good house companions as well as hunters. Because of this secondary thought, the dogs quickly moved into being bred to become even smaller in size. This is where the dogs were bred with Dachshunds in order to create a red color and small structure to the Min Pins. Of course, the concept of having a smaller dog is just as attractive to men now as it was to women then. Miniature Pinschers are known to have characteristics including being a more fearless and energetic dog, something that many men may like in a smaller dog.
These are the origins which have allowed Miniature Pinschers to gain some of their major attributes that some may notice today. The first of these attributes is that Min Pins are loyal companions to their owners, even more so than some other dogs. The second is that these dogs were bred in order to find and catch vermin, meaning that they will chase smaller animals and have also gained the attribute of being able to dig in order to find the rodents. This also means that your Miniature Pinscher has a higher amount of energy and will most likely need something to do even beyond the walks that you want to take them on.
Even though the Miniature Pinscher breed was created by combining breeds and ideas from men, these dogs have achieved some of the greatest attributes of dogs.
