World?s Greatest Dog Has Very Bad Day ? We Learned New Tricks!

Thinking about inviting man’s best friend to share your home? I love dogs, all types! My husband and I have 4 dachshunds. They each have their individual personalities. The youngest one, Cricket, barks whenever she wants to communicate anything – “Hey, share your chips/dinner/beer with me!” “I know you are on the other side of the door, so let me in.” “Do you realize it’s time for dinner???” Our first dog, Daisy, talks by making a combo howl-whine noise to communicate. Precious is the timid one and habitually wears a worried expression. She lets you know when she wants to go outside, but insists that you accompany her all the way outside and remain until she is finished! Danny, our only male, struts around like he own the place and well, actually, I think he is the self-appointed czar of the household!

I’m a firm believer that your pet must fit your living quarters and lot size as well as your life style. Is your big dog going to be comfortable in your one bedroom apartment with little or no yard? Is your Chihuahua going to calmly lounge around your home peacefully while you are at work all day or to turn into Nervous Nellie and shred the drapes? How are they around children or other dogs? Some dogs, like our dachshunds enjoy being in pairs and are better behaved if left in the company of another one of their kind. Left alone, we found that Danny would help himself to bottles of our drinking water, opening one at a time and dumping the contents. I’m no forensics expert, but I saw tooth marks on the lids and the evidence was left near his bed! He also had a nasty habit of tearing up cardboard boxes and eating wicker trash cans! My point is, it is best to thoroughly research different breeds, and visit people who own these dogs in various stages of development. We have only wood floors in our house, but many of you have carpet and you’ll find this story especially interesting! I went for a visit recently to my daughter’s home. She and her husband have two wonderful boys whom I love to pieces and the best dog in the world! He is a wonderful mutt dog that allows the kids to sit, crawl, hug or whatever they want to do on or to him.
